7.1 六种必须先认出的基础形状
Yield sign
Yield Right of Way 标志为三角形，红边白底。
接近路口时必须减速；如果其他交通已经在路口内或正接近路口，必须让行，必要时停车。
Regulatory
Regulatory signs 通常为白色长方形或正方形，配黑色或其他颜色文字。这类标志说明法律要求，例如限速、停车限制、转弯和超车规定。
Warning
Warning signs 通常为黄色或橙色菱形，带黑色文字或符号，用来提醒前方存在危险或异常情况，例如弯道、转弯、下沉或侧路。
Railway crossing
铁路道口使用 crossbuck 标志。
School zone
荧光黄色五边形用于学校区域和学校横道预告。
7.2 颜色代表什么
Red
停车或禁止。
Blue
景点旅游信息或驾驶人服务。
Green
方向引导或允许的交通 movement。
Yellow
一般警告、危险、注意。
Fluorescent yellow
学校区域或学校横道预告。
White
法规类要求。
Orange
施工和养护警告。
7.3 Regulatory signs 法规标志

表示在理想条件下允许的最高速度。

7.4 Warning signs 警告标志
Two-way traffic ahead
前方为双向交通。
Obstruction
前方有障碍，应按标志所示方向绕行。
Bump or rough road ahead
前方路面颠簸或粗糙。
Animal crossing
前方可能有动物穿越。
Steep hill ahead
前方为陡坡。
Underpass ahead
前方下穿通道，并标明净空高度。

Construction signs 施工标志
- Construction signs 为橙底黑字或黑图案。
- Construction ahead：进入施工区，可能伴随限速变化。
- Traffic control person ahead：前方有人工交通指挥，准备停车听指令。
- Road work ahead：前方有施工人员或养护作业，需特别注意临时限速。
- Detour ahead：前方绕行。
- Survey crew ahead：前方有测量队在道路或路边作业，减速通过。
- Truck entrance left/right：前方可能有卡车出入或横穿。
- Pavement drop-off：相邻车道或路肩高低差变化，需谨慎保持车辆稳定。
7.5 Railway crossings 铁路道口
- 机动车与火车碰撞是最致命的道路碰撞之一，理论上本应完全避免。
- Advance warning sign 提醒你减速、观察、倾听，因为你可能必须停车。
- 路面上的 “X” 和 stop line 也可能提示你前方是铁路道口。
- Railway Crossing sign 表示必须向所有火车让行；如果有多股铁轨，下方牌子会标出数量。
- 若铁路标志旁配有 stop sign，必须在距最近铁轨至少 5 米处停车，确认安全后再通过。
- 若配有 flashing lights 和 bell，一旦启动就必须停车，等灯和铃停止、火车完全通过且确认安全后再前进。
- 若有多股铁轨，要确认所有轨道都已经清空，不要因为一列车刚通过就立即起步，以防对向第二列火车。
