What you will do:

The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is seeking a GIS Analyst to support departmental programs through the development and maintenance of interactive, web‑based GIS products. This position focuses on delivering accessible digital mapping, dashboards, and spatial storytelling tools using ESRI Web GIS technologies to support operational planning, program reporting, and communication.

Applying industry-recognized GIS standards and best practices the GIS Analyst translates spatial data into clear, user‑focused applications for internal staff, partners, and the public. The role is primarily delivery‑oriented and supports departmental initiatives across Parks, Trails, Active Transportation, and Tourism Development.

Job responsibilities include:

GIS & Digital Products (Primary Focus)

Designing, developing, and maintaining Web GIS applications using:
ESRI Experience Builder
ESRI StoryMaps
ArcGIS Dashboards
ArcGIS Online web maps and hosted layers
Creating interactive GIS products that support program reporting, monitoring, and communication
Converting GIS datasets and analyses results into intuitive digital tools tailored to user needs
Updating and refining GIS products based on feedback from program staff
Maintaining awareness of evolving ESRI Web GIS features and proactively applying new capabilities to enhance digital mapping products and user experience
Supporting the visualization of spatial data for internal and external audiences

Field Data Collection Tools

Configuring and supporting field data collection tools (e.g., Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture)
Supporting the integration of field‑collected data into enterprise GIS systems
Assisting operational teams by maintaining GIS tools used for data collection and validation

GIS Data Maintenance & Support

Analyzing spatial data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that support business and operational decision-making
Evaluating and interpreting GIS data from multiple sources to develop meaningful spatial analyses and recommendations
Assessing data quality, completeness, and suitability for analytical and reporting purposes
Conducting spatial analyses using enterprise and external datasets to address program, project, and stakeholder needs
Preparing and structuring spatial data for use in web maps, dashboards, applications, and analytical products
Synthesizing geospatial information into clear visualizations and reporting tools that communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences

Spatial Analysis & Mapping Support

Producing GIS maps, visualizations, and basic spatial analyses to support program activities
Assisting program teams by responding to GIS‑related information requests
Supporting the development of thematic maps and spatial summaries for reports and presentations
Applying industry-recognized GIS methods and tools to support project and department needs

Collaboration & Program Support

Working collaboratively with staff across the department to understand GIS and Web GIS needs
Providing technical input and guidance related to Web GIS products and digital mapping tools
Documenting Web GIS applications, datasets, and workflows to support continuity and reuse
Participating in team meetings and project discussions related to GIS deliverables
Actively participating in GeoNB Technical Committee meetings and working groups

Required Competencies:

A recognized post‑secondary diploma or degree in GIS, geomatics, geography, computer science, planning, or a related field
At least 2 years of demonstrable GIS/web GIS experience
Demonstrated experience working with GIS software, including the ESRI platform
Hands‑on experience developing web‑based GIS products, such as web maps, dashboards, Experience Builder apps, or StoryMaps
Experience managing and updating GIS datasets
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non‑technical users
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English or French is required. Please state your language capability.

Wage:

Pay Band 4 - $2,271.00 to $3,176.00 bi-weekly

Work environment:

Primary office location: Marysville Place, 20 McGloin Street, Fredericton
Opportunities for hybrid work
Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:15AM to 4:30 PM
Occasional field or site-support activities may be required
Work involves collaboration across diverse program areas
