The Office of the Integrity Commissioner was established in December 2016 as an independent legislative office that works to encourage and promote a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability in New Brunswick's public sector.

The Integrity Commissioner is responsible for administering the Members' Conflict of Interest Act, which sets out acceptable standards of conduct for all Members of the Legislative Assembly and of the Executive Council, the Lobbyists' Registration Act to ensure transparency and accountability in the lobbying of public office holders and the Conflict of Interest Act, which sets out acceptable standards for all executive staff members, Deputy Ministers and heads of Crown corporations.

Appointed under the authority of the Integrity Commissioner Act, the Integrity Commissioner is an officer of the Legislative Assembly and is independent of the executive branch of government.

Essential Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree, preferably in the field of law or in a relevant discipline (e.g., public administration, finance, or accounting).
  • Minimum of 10 years' work experience in one or a combination of the following:
  • Administrative law and procedure;
  • Extensive interpretation of legislation, regulation and policy;
  • Resolution of disputes of a sensitive and confidential nature using formal and informal conflict resolution approaches.
  • Senior management experience in a private or public sector organization, including managing financial and human resources.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present on sensitive and frequently complex issues and organizational needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Subject to the response of this competition, an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered, or the required years of experience may be increased.

Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Act and mandate of the Office of the Integrity Commissioner
  • Familiarity with New Brunswick culture and context
  • An understanding of the structure and operation of the Government of New Brunswick

Technical Competencies: Successful candidates will possess the following technical competencies:

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation.
  • Specialized subject matter expertise and knowledge related to conflicts of interest and lobbying.

Before an appointment can be made, the successful candidate will be required to complete the following:

  • New Brunswick second language evaluation unless a valid second language evaluation certificate is provided;
  • Reference checks,
  • Criminal record check,
  • Confirmation of good standing with professional associations, if applicable

Conditions / Compensation:

  • Compensation and benefits comparable to Deputy Heads within the Government of New Brunswick (Salary range: $172,978 - $228,020)
  • Travel is required
  • Term: Seven years, non-renewable
  • Location: Fredericton

Selection process:

Candidates will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive assessment that will include testing, interview, and a presentation to a selection committee.

Appointment by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly.
